Rental Magica @ Animax

Delve into a fantasy and supernatural world of action adventure with anime series, Rental Magica. In a realm where wizard dispatch companies vie for work, prestige and power, the series depicts the battles among specialists wielding Eastern and Western magic disciplines including Celtic, Rune and King Solomon’s magic, Shinto, Onmyodo, Vajrayana, Poltergeist abilities, Alchemy, Necromancy, Taoism, Exorcism, and Demonic Eye or ‘Glam Sight’.

Destroying supernatural monsters and dispelling magic are all in a day's work for the wizards of Rental Magica. At wizard dispatch company Astral, its president mysteriously disappears and it is left to his son and protagonist, Itsuki Iba, to begrudgingly fill in as its chief. Itsuki will have to lead Astral’s wizards to battle evil spirits and creatures, rogue magicians, and the dark magician society Ophionto, just to pay their bills and escape abolition by the wizards’ association.

The problem is Itsuki isn’t even a wizard and his unfamiliarity with magic is bad news for Astral. What he does have is an enhanced ‘Glam Sight’ ability which enables him to see the flow of magic and its weaknesses, control spells, and even peer into the memories of magic users. But every time he uses it, his health deteriorates.

Although their rival firm Goetia is after the very same contracts, the jobs get ever more dangerous. Itsuki and the Astral wizards soon realize that staying in the business is the least of their worries…

Voted by fans as the “Best Action Story” in Japan’s Light Novel Awards in 2007 for the series of novels that the anime series is based on, Rental Magica features popular voice actors Jun Fukuyama (Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion) and Rie Kugimiya (Shakugan no Shana) as lead characters Itsuki and Astral Shinto magician Mikan respectively.

Rental Magica premieres 29 March 2012, airing Mondays – Fridays at 11pm, first and exclusively on Animax
